Gradually development of human mind is reflected through the inventions of fire, wheel, mariner’s compass, gun powder, printing press and telephone. As all locomotives are rooted back to the invention of wheel, similarly window 7 vista and window 8 are the develop form of window 95 with certain modification meeting the demand of developing human mind.

Windows 8 is a positive and striking change from versions of windows operating previously without disturbing the existing desktop of windows 7.On the contrary windows 8 is an addition of new layer of operating system which is built around information and visually driven tiles that display things like message snippits, the scripts, sports scores or photos. Though the layer is anonymous yet for our convenience we will call it metro. It is structured to be much friendly, but it exists in the pc version because Microsoft has merged its tablets and pc operating systems. In windows 8 automatic flow of music is like a built-in-spotify.That means you will literally be able to start up windows 8 for the first time and play free music right away. Windows 8 is inclusive of security features such as new virus and malware detectors. Windows 8 has simplified the traditional long procedure by providing a junk drawer –the one on the left hand side with the rubber bands and the stale cheetos in it.Tecnique of scroll wheel instead of mouse saves you from the previous headache.

Every window has some negative and positive features. The analysis of windows 8 below illustrates the pros and cons of the window in question.

PROS:

*Metro redesigned actually makes desktop way more pleasant.

*Two-display support is pretty solid and useful for mixing metro with desktop.

*Real gestures on windows.

*Easier recovery from system problems.

*New improved file system.
*Better integration with the cloud.

CONS:

*Limited selection of metro applications in the windows store.

*Simple actions in metro applications, like searching, can be deceptively hard to complete.

*Laptop touch pads don’t make the most sense.

*The missing start menu will drive some people nuts.

*Some applications like mail seem unfinished.

*The metro start screen is awesome dash board application drawer.

In one word windows 8 is like the additional topping on a pizza of window 7 without disturbing its lower layers and the base loaf of window 95.

With a vision to cater to the lower segment of the market, Nokia Pakistan and djuice have joined hands to start a series of Developer Workshops that aim to provide training focused on S40 devices. The workshop was recently held at Telenor’s Regional Head Office, Islamabad and included developers from SEECS, NUST University as well as some SMEs. Faisal Iqbal, Mobile Specialist at Orison Technologies imparted training to the participants and shared the details of development tools available for game development with QML.

Talking about the partnership, Faisal Riaz, Applications & Devices Specialist, djuice said,

“djuice partnered with Nokia to give a chance to amateur app developers to improve their skill set and perhaps do more with it than they can right now. During training, we received a great response from the developers and being one of the leading telecom service providers in Pakistan, we feel it is our responsibility to support initiatives that promise industry-wide growth. We hope to enter into new mutually beneficial partnerships in future with Nokia as well and contribute to better services for end consumers.”

 

Expressing her views, Rabia Nizami, Business Development Manager EDX, Nokia Pakistan & Afghanistan said,

Nokia has been organizing these kinds of workshops for developers in Pakistan for the past 2 years. As part of Nokia partnership with djuice to build the local Ecosystem and provide new opportunities to the local developers, this time around Nokia offered a Training Workshop in Islamabad partnered with djuice and P@SHA for Game development with QML. The workshop was geared towards channelizing the strengths of local developers and providing them resources to develop more locally relevant mobile apps for Nokia Smart Devices in our country.”

At the workshop’s conclusion, certificates were distributed among all the participating developers. Events of this nature are pertinent to take the local IT/Telecom industry to the next level and enable better mobility experience for end consumers especially in countries like Pakistan where majority of people use S40 mobile phones.

Working on Visual Studio 2008 we will make small application program which can make a text to speak.

I will guide you how to make an application in Visual Studio 2008 (previous version also works), follow below steps to successfully execute the application which can actually speaks from what is written in the text box.

Step 1: Start Visual Studio 2008 (or any version), Create a new project and name it accordingly, i have named it ‘Text2Speech’, see the image below:

Step 2: You will be displayed with a Form1, now add a Label, a Text Box and a Button from the toolbox. Change Label property to “Enter Text and I will Speak”. Also change the Multiline property of the text box to True and rename the Button text to “Speak”. After making changes your Form1 will look like this:

Step 3: Now right click on the project name from right sidebar and click on Add Reference link. Navigate to the COM tab and select “Microsoft Speech Library” from the list and click OK.

Step 4: After adding the speech reference to your project, now double click on the button to fire the event handler function when the user press Speak button, now write the code as shown below:
